The Asteroid-Comet Danger and Planetary Defense - A View from Russia

Schiller Institute Conference
Frankfurt, Germany
April 13-14, 2013

Kirill Benediktov writer and member of the editorial board of the website Terra America talks about the asteroid-comet danger and planetary defense.

Some quotes out of his speech:

Total number of not yet discovered objects with a diameter of greater than 1 kilometer; Russian scientists estimate that there are about 40 undiscovered, or 20% of the total undiscovered potential very dangerous large space bodies.

The total number of potentially life threatening objects to the Earth is 200,000 – 300,000 and only 2% have been identified by astronomers so far.

The most projects in space defense are passive. The only case of intervention on a space object was the deep impact experiment of bombarding nuclear on the Temple One comet.

Using ballistic missiles with a 1,5 tons payload to a danger approaching asteroid would be enough to destroy an asteroid up to several hundreds of meters in diameter.

Please listen to the interesting speech of Kirill Benediktov:

Women Space Conspiracy - May 2013

NASA:

The United States screened a group of female pilots in 1959 and 1960 for possible astronaut training but later decided to restrict astronaut qualification to men. The first American woman in space was astronaut and physicist Sally Ride, who served as mission specialist on a flight of the space shuttle Challenger in 1983.

In memory of Sally Ride and Judith Resnik. and their contribution for women's equality in the NASA Space Program. This film takes us back to a time when women were excluded from entering the Astronaut Space Program and their struggle, against all odds, to gain acceptances from NASA. Discover the untold story of women in space in this fact filled film hosted by Nichelle Nichols (Communications officer Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek®).

RUSSIA:

On June 16, 1963, aboard Vostok 6, Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova becomes the first woman to travel into space. After 48 orbits and 71 hours, she returned to earth, having spent more time in space than all U.S. astronauts combined to that date.

Valentina Tereshkova

In 1963, Tereshkova was chosen to take part in the second dual flight in the Vostok program, involving spacecrafts Vostok 5 and Vostok 6. On June 14, 1963, Vostok 5 was launched into space with cosmonaut Valeri Bykovsky aboard. With Bykovsky still orbiting the earth, Tereshkova was launched into space on June 16 aboard Vostok 6. The two spacecrafts had different orbits but at one point came within three miles of each other, allowing the two cosmonauts to exchange brief communications. Tereshkova's spacecraft was guided by an automatic control system, and she never took manual control. On June 19, after just under three days in space, Vostok 6 reentered the atmosphere, and Tereshkova successfully parachuted to earth after ejecting at 20,000 feet. Bykovsky and Vostok 5 landed safely a few hours later. She never entered space again, and hers was the last space flight by a female cosmonaut until the 1980s.

But, was Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova the first woman to travel into space?

The Torre Bert Recordings

The Judica-Cordiglia brothers are two former amateur radio operators who made audio recordings that allegedly supported the conspiracy theory that the Soviet space program had covered up cosmonaut deaths in the 1960s.

On May 19, 1961, the Torre Bert listening station ( Judica-Cordiglia brothers) in northern Italy purportedly picked up a transmission of a woman’s voice, sounding confused and frightened as her craft began to break up upon reentry.

Is this the first woman in space?

This is the supposed recording of a Soviet space flight in 1961. In it, a Russian woman can be heard complaining about the increasing temperature inside the craft before it is destroyed attempting re-entry.

This was recorded by the Judica-Cordiglia brothers in 1961. It is reportedly one of many transmissions intercepted by the two brothers that prove the existence of the lost cosmonauts.

The following is a translation of what the woman is saying:

five…four…three …two…one…one two…three…four…five… come in… come in… come in… LISTEN…LISTEN! …COME IN! COME IN… COME IN… TALK TO ME! TALK TO ME!… I AM HOT!… I AM HOT! WHAT?… FORTYFIVE?… WHAT?… FORTYFIVE?… FIFTY?… YES…YES…YES… BREATHING… BREATHING… OXYGEN… OXYGEN… I AM HOT… (THIS) ISN’T THIS DANGEROUS?… IT’S ALL… ISN’T THIS DANGEROUS?… IT’S ALL… YES…YES…YES… HOW IS THIS? WHAT?… TALK TO ME!… HOW SHOULD I TRANSMIT? YES…YES…YES… WHAT? OUR TRANSMISSION BEGINS NOW… FORTYONE… THIS WAY… OUR TRANSMISSION BEGINS NOW… FORTYONE… THIS WAY… OUR TRANSMISSION BEGINS NOW… FORTYONE… YES… I FEEL HOT… I FEEL HOT… IT’S ALL… IT’S HOT… I FEEL HOT… I FEEL HOT… I FEEL HOT… … I CAN SEE A FLAME!… WHAT?… I CAN SEE A FLAME!… I CAN SEE A FLAME!… I FEEL HOT… I FEEL HOT… THIRTYTWO… THIRTYTWO… FORTYONE… FORTYONE AM I GOING TO CRASH?… YES…YES… I FEEL HOT!… I FEEL HOT!… I WILL REENTER!… I WILL REENTER… I AM LISTENING!… I FEEL HOT!…

In total the Judica-Cordiglia brothers released nine recordings over a period of four years. More information at lostcosmonauts.com

NASA code 8 for NEO Asteroid 2013 KB, discovered on May 16, 2013

Asteroid 2013 KB was discovered just several days ago by NASA. NASA has put the code on 8, (0 is OK - 9 is very uncertain).

The closest approach '.008 AU' to Earth is on May 22, 2013.

Nevertheless, .008 AU is still about three times the distance of the Moon - Earth, or about 744,000 miles, but it is remarkable that Asteroid 2013 KB sits around the same position for almost 1 day before moving on.

Listen to the information and explanation from OutrDemnDarkness in the video below:

Besides, there are two additional asteroids coming in along with 2013 KB:

1. 2013 KTI at 3.2 lunar distances with closest approach on May 21st, condition code 5
2. 2013 KS1 at 4.8 lunar distances, closest approach on May 22nd, condition code 8.

With four fireballs spotted over U.S. the last days, a Mexico fireball on May 18, 2013, a meteorite near miss in New Zealand, another meteorite strikes Mahangu field in Namibia and the flyby of the 1.7 miles wide Asteroid 1998 QE2 on may 31, 2013 the number of meteors/meteorites that fall to earth continues to increase...

The Sun Rips off a Comet's tail - May 15, 2013

Comet Lemmon (C/2012 F6), which is receding from the sun not far beyond the orbit of Earth, has just experienced a "disconnection event."

A cloud of dusty plasma is propagating down the comet's tail, shown here in a photo taken by Paul Mortfield on May 15th:

Disconnection events can be caused by CME impacts. A famous example is that of Comet Encke in 2007.

Comet Lemmon, however, is not on the same side of the sun as active sunspot AR1748. It's hard to see how the recent X-flares can be responsible. Nevertheless, solar activity is high and comets are very sensitive to stormy space weather.

Comet Encke

On April 20, 2007, the comet Encke had just dipped inside the orbit of Mercury, perilously close to the sun, when a solar eruption struck and literally tore the comet's tail off.

NASA's STEREO-A probe recorded a fantastic movie of the collision.

The eruption that hit Encke was a CME or "coronal mass ejection.

CMEs are fast-moving and massive, packing billions of tons of solar gas and magnetism into billowing clouds traveling a million-plus miles per hour.

Actually, it is a little surprising that a CME succeeded in ripping off a comet's tail. For all their mass and power, CMEs are spread over a large volume of space.

The impact of a CME exerts little more than a few nanoPascals of mechanical pressure.

The ripping action must have been something else.

"We believe the explanation is 'magnetic reconnection,'" says Vourlidas of the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C. Magnetic fields around the comet bumped into oppositely directed magnetic fields in the CME. Suddenly, these fields linked together--they "reconnected"--releasing a burst of energy that tore off the comet's tail.

Comet ISON

I wonder what would happen if an earth directed CME rips off comet ISON's tail.

Dark 1.7 miles long Asteroid 1998 QE2 to fly by Earth on May 31, 2013

It's 1.7 miles long. Its surface is covered in a sticky black substance similar to the gunk at the bottom of a barbecue. If it impacted Earth it would probably result in global extinction. Good thing it is just making a flyby.

Asteroid 1998 QE2 will make its closest pass to Earth on May 31 at 1:59 p.m. PDT.X The space rock's name is not an homage to England's Queen Elizabeth II, or to the famous 12-deck ocean liner that was retired from service in 2008. It's just the moniker assigned by the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Mass., which names each new found asteroid according to an established alphanumeric scheme that lays out when it was discovered.

Scientists are not sure where this unusually large space rock, which was discovered 15 years ago, originated from. But the mysterious sooty substance on its surface could indicate it may be the result of a comet that flew too close to the sun, said Amy Mainzer, who tracks near-Earth objects at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La CaƱada Flintridge. It might also have leaked out of the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, she said.

We will know more after the asteroid zips closer to Earth and scientists using the Deep Space Network antenna in Goldstone, Calif., and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico can get a better look at it. Astronomers at both observatories plan to track it closely from May 30 to June 9, according to a JPL release.

At its closest approach the asteroid will still be 3.6 million miles from our planet (about 15 times the distance between the Earth and the moon), but it will be close enough for these powerful radar antennas to see features as small as 12 feet across.

"With radar we can transform an object from a point of light into a small world with its own characteristics," Lance Benner, JPL's principal investigator for Goldstone radar observations, said in a statement.

NASA leads the global effort to identify potentially dangerous asteroids. Our planet has been pummeled by space rocks throughout its 4.5-billion-year history, and more strikes are in our future.

The planet got a dramatic reminder of this reality this past Feb. 15. On that day, a 55-foot (17 m) object exploded without warning over Russia, just hours before the 130-foot asteroid 2012 DA14 gave Earth a close shave, missing our planet by just 17,200 miles (27,000 km).

There is no chance that asteroid 1998 QE2 could collide with Earth this go-around, and its next close approach won't be until 2119.

Still, Mainzer said the size of the asteroid, and its potential for mass destruction, should remind us that there are some scary things flying around in space.

"This is a really big asteroid, similar in size to the one that killed off the dinosaurs, and it's getting very close to us," she said. "Fortunately we've been tracking its orbit very carefully so we know with great certainty it won't hit us.

"We don't need to panic, but we do need to pay attention," she said.

Bright Explosion on the Moon 2013

For the past 8 years, NASA astronomers have been monitoring the Moon for signs of explosions caused by meteoroids hitting the lunar surface. "Lunar meteor showers" have turned out to be more common than anyone expected, with hundreds of detectable impacts occurring every year.

They've just seen the biggest explosion in the history of the program.

"On March 17, 2013, an object about the size of a small boulder hit the lunar surface in Mare Imbrium," says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. "It exploded in a flash nearly 10 times as bright as anything we've ever seen before."

The 40 kg meteoroid measuring 0.3 to 0.4 meters wide hit the Moon traveling 56,000 mph. The resulting explosion packed as much punch as 5 tons of TNT.

Unlike Earth, which has an atmosphere to protect it, the Moon is airless and exposed. "Lunar meteors" crash into the ground with fair frequency. Since the monitoring program began in 2005, NASA’s lunar impact team has detected more than 300 strikes, most orders of magnitude fainter than the March 17th event. Statistically speaking, more than half of all lunar meteors come from known meteoroid streams such as the Perseids and Leonids. The rest are sporadic meteors--random bits of comet and asteroid debris of unknown parentage.

U.S. Space Exploration Policy eventually calls for extended astronaut stays on the lunar surface. Identifying the sources of lunar meteors and measuring their impact rates gives future lunar explorers an idea of what to expect. Is it safe to go on a moonwalk, or not? The middle of March might be a good time to stay inside.

Governments know about a possible pending global disaster - 2013

World powers know about a possible pending destruction, but are not announcing it, in order to take advantage of the common man's ignorance...

The main stream media has focused mainly on the global unrest and have remained quiet of environment situations. Governments have remained quiet. Scientists have stayed mum for now.

For those who are not yet aware that governments take precautions for a possible global disaster, here are some remarkable facts:

The U.S. Space Shuttle launched its last mission in mid-2011. At that time, NASA entirely abanded it’s government-funded manned spaceflight program.

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault was sealed in 2011. This seed bank will allow the world to restart agriculture given a global catastrophe.

The impending total collapse of the global financial system. It is as if various governments are not expecting to have to pay back their debts, perhaps anticipating a global economic reset due to reasons not currently stated.

Governments, Organisations and Military building at an increased rate World Wide Underground Survival Bunkers. The rise of Bunkers being built around the World be almost 700% in the past 3-5 years. The governments of the world have been building 1000's of deep underground bunkers (D.U.M.B.s) for many years.

The U.S. is digging huge underground facilities in inhospitable regions difficult for the masses to reach!

China is digging extraordinary subway complexes under most of its major cities in a crash program that seems odd in terms of timing and scope.

Russia announced in 2011 that it is adding 5,000 new nuclear bomb shelters in Moscow, enabling it to protect all of Moscow's residents. The project had to be ready in 2012.. Russia's new subway systems have also been place deeper than needed so that they can be used as deep emergency shelters.

The Norwegian government is building more and more underground bases and bunkers. When asked, they simply say that it is for the protection of the people of Norway.

Fema Camps: Over the past few years, FEMA has been very busy, building 'camps' and has acquired millions of body bags. They are also stockpiling millions of tons of dried food. A public service announcement from FEMA in 2011, suggesting that we all get a survival kit, in case our ‘world is turned upside down’ and DHS is buying for billions of rounds of ammo! Why?

Why all these preparations, and why the rush?

Solar activity will continue to increase as the solar cycle progresses toward solar maximum, expected in the 2013 time frame.

NASA is now predicting that the Sun may generate unprecedented solar storms for a lengthy period in 2013.  They cannot accurately predict Earth's normal weather a week in advance, and it is by no means clear how NASA can do this with respect unprecedented weather on the Sun years in advance. They are saying that they are more dependent on vulnerable computer technology now. But we had similar dependencies in 2001 and 1990 when previous 11-year solar cycles hit. What is different about the current cycle?

Remote viewing experts mention a mysterious "object" about 13 by 30 kilometers, heading towards our Sun. (Maybe Comet ISON?).

Some might suggest that NASA is acting as if it has some extra information that is not currently stated! Besides, Darkskywatcher74 suggest that NASA is changing and manipulating orbital diagrams for comet C/2012 C1 - ISON.

Comet ISON as seen on May 2, 2013. The tail lenght is much bigger than expect..

Recent data from the remote viewing sessions, shows the mysterious "object" to approach our planet from the opposite side of the Sun. They say it will approach so close that it might break apart, turning into many smaller objects.

If it remains intact, the trajectory calls for an approach to our planet by an orbit a little greater than that of our Moon. But if it breaks apart from its close approach to the Sun, this may change.

Remote viewers predicting events that would happen prior to a solar or meteor impact.

The remote viewers were able to give two: The detonation of another nuclear bomb by North Korea (The Korean detonation happened February 11, 2013 - the same day the Pope resigned) and the emergency landing of some type of flying vehicle (Perhaps the escape pod of the international space station) because of debris falling towards Earth.

A sign?

Space rock left a bullet-sized hole in ISS solar panel

The unusual activities from governments and organizations, the analysis from the remote viewers, the solar maximum this year (Just today May 14, 2013, the Sun released three powerful flares: X1.7 – X2.8 and X3.2), the significant increase in meteors and meteorites exploding near the earth's surface, and last week, a space rock left a bullet-sized hole in an ISS solar panel and there was a radiator ammonia leak at the ISS.(video astronauts spacewalk to repair leak).

Is it possible that all these preparations, predictions and signs refer to a pending meteor shower?

Rather than a meteor or comet, a massive meteor shower that will hit the earth, soon very soon?

Time will tell…

Solar Activity: Powerful X1.7 and X2.8-Class Solar Flares - May 14, 2013

A sunspot on the sun's eastern limb is crackling with powerful X-class solar flares.

It announced itself with an X1.7-class eruption on May 13th at 0217 UT. Associated with this event was a strong R3 Level Radio Blackout.

Quickly followed by an X2.8-class flare at 1609 UT. These are the strongest flares of 2013, and they signal a significant uptick in solar activity. More eruptions are in the offing.

Both of today's flares have produced strong flashes of extreme ultraviolet radiation. The explosions also hurled coronal mass ejections (CMEs) into space. the CMEs appear to be on course to hit NASA's Epoxi and Spitzer spacecraft on May 15-16.

When the flaring began, the sunspot was hidden behind the sun's eastern limb, but now solar rotation is bringing the active region into view.

The next 24 to 48 hours should reveal much about the sunspot, including its size, magnetic complexity, and potential for future flares.

For the moment, there is no reason to expect the explosions to stop.

Update:

A X3.2-class Flare on May 14, 2013.
This is the strongest flare this year so far. NOAA estimate a 40% change of more X-flares during the next 24 hours.
Earthquake update: A M7.0 quake 39km W of Agrihan, Northern Mariana Islands on May 14, 2013.

Massive Fireball Explodes Over Japan - May 6, 2013 (Video)

On May 6th, 2013 a massive fireball exploded over Saitama Prefecture, Japan when a meteor entered the Earth's atmosphere and then reportedly broke up and turned into meteorites. On May 6th, 2013 a massive fireball exploded over Saitama Prefecture, Japan when a meteor entered the Earth's atmosphere and then reportedly broke up and turned into meteorites.

Here is the translated eye-witness report from contributors to the Sonotaco forum:

Equal to 10 explosion fireball Aquarius group of 17 seconds 58 minutes 3:06 May 2013. 6 minutes permanent scars. Results to 10 of the analysis was the best. However, the vanishing point side, the automatic analysis, position did not come out well. I was able to shoot two cameras. There was a flash to the other two. If I had to check the live image wake up in 55 minutes 3:00, so I noticed, it was confirmed persistent marks visually six minutes in the live image then. I capture the change of frame 10 degree mark in the middle. There was a fireball of over 5 equal to 6 seconds 9 minutes 4:00.

Nostradamus has made a lot of famous prophecies , But one yet to be fulfilled exactly is the Great Earthquake in the Month of May!

On May 8th 2013 , We find the exact alignment that Nostradamus wrote of!

Nostradamus:

“In the Year that Saturn and Mars are equally fiery, The air is very dry, a long meteor; of the people and beasts shall be a horrible destruction. Blood, thirst, fammine, when the Comet shall run.”

“Fire from the center of the Earth, The great Earthquake shall be in the Mouth of May. Saturn, Capricorn, Jupiter, Mercury in Taurus, Venus, Also Cancer, Mars in Zero.”

Prophetic Message and Warning! A Church, West Coast, Hawaii, Lousiana, New York 2013

Tredachere wants to share this urgent message from the Lord which she received on May 3, 2013.

Even if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, she asks to listen to the message.

There is much calamity coming to many areas of the United States.

Edgar Cayce already predicted 'natural' disasters as well as the Farsight Institute, U.S. Department of Defense Darpa, remote viewe Ed Dames, Nostradamus and St. Johan. And the list goes on.

Just another prediction which claims that many areas in America, especially the west coast of America will be hit by disasters?

Mysterious Hurricane at Saturn's North Pole 2013

NASA's Cassini spacecraft has provided scientists the first close-up, visible-light views of a behemoth hurricane swirling around Saturn's north pole.

The hurricane's eye is about 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) wide, 20 times larger than the average hurricane eye on Earth. Thin, bright clouds at the outer edge of the hurricane are traveling 330 mph (150 meters per second). The hurricane swirls inside a large, mysterious, six-sided weather pattern known as the hexagon.

A terrestrial hurricane and Saturn's north polar vortex have a central eye with no clouds or very low clouds. Other similar features include high clouds forming an eye wall, other high clouds spiraling around the eye, and a counter-clockwise spin in the northern hemisphere.

A major difference between the hurricanes is that the one on Saturn is much bigger than its counterparts on Earth and spins surprisingly fast. At Saturn, the wind in the eye wall blows more than four times faster than hurricane-force winds on Earth. Unlike terrestrial hurricanes, which tend to move, the Saturnian hurricane is locked onto the planet's north pole. On Earth, hurricanes tend to drift northward because of the forces acting on the fast swirls of wind as the planet rotates.

Comet ISON: Remote Viewer Ed Dames gets nervous

Comet Hale Bopp was discovered on July 23, 1995 and one of the brightest seen for many decades. It was visible to the naked eye for a record 18 months, twice as long as the previous record holder, the Great Comet of 1811. Hale–Bopp met or exceeded most predictions when it passed perihelion on April 1, 1997. The comet's dust tail roughly followed the path of the comet's orbit and yielded no danger for Earth.

Comet ISON photographed by the Hubble Telescope on April 10, 2013

Comet ISON is different. This comet follows the path of the Great Comet of 1811. This comet, according to NASA will overrule the brightness of Hale Bopp, later this year.

OK, ISON will not be a threat to Earth - getting no closer to Earth than about 40 million miles, but a new model of the debris flowing from Comet ISON suggests that the sungrazer could dust the Earth around January 12, 2014.

The Solar Cycle according to NASA peaks in the second half of 2013, and possible last in 2014.

End of this year, early 2014, in the same time frame: Comet ISON and the peak of the Solar Cycle!

Listen to a revealing interview of Ed Dames on TheLightOfDayRadioShow where Ed Dames expressed his concerns about comet ISON.

Amazing Fireball Falls From The Sky in Texas 2013

Amazing images of a Fireball that falls from the sky in Texas. The photographs were taken on December 13, 2012, by our regular reader Pamela Anderson.

Last December, Earth went through a a stream of debris from "rock comet" 3200 Phaethon and Comet Wirtanen. That time period was also the peak of the strong annual Geminid meteor shower.

We assume that the wonderful images are related to debris of the meteor shower of Comet Wirtanen / Geminid shower or is it something else? We would like to know your opinion.

Meteorite Crashes Through Roof Of House in Connecticut - Apr 20, 2013

A rock that crashed through a house in Connecticut last weekend has been confirmed to be a meteorite.

Homeowner Larry Beck called police in Wolcott, CT at 10:30 a.m. on April 20, 2013 and said a baseball-sized rock crashed through his home the night before, causing damage to his roof and pipes in the attic before cracking the ceiling in his kitchen.

Police reported that people from several towns in the area had called to report a loud boom that rattled windows last Friday evening.

Reports say that at first, police thought the rock was a broken piece of airport runway concrete that had dropped from a plane when landing gear was being lowered. The home is near two airports.

After examining the object on Tuesday, Stefan Nicolescu, the collections manager for the Mineralogy Division at the Yale Peabody Museum confirmed it was in fact a meteorite, likely a chondrite.

Debris from Comet ISON could dust the Earth with Meteoroids in early 2014!

Anticipation is building as Comet ISON plunges into the inner solar system for a close encounter with the sun in November 2013 and expected to become a bright naked-eye object later this year, (arrives on Dec. 26, 2013.

Blasted at point-blank range by solar radiation, the sungrazer will likely become one of the finest comets in many years.

When NASA's Swift spacecraft observed the comet in January 2013, it was still near the orbit of Jupiter, but already very active. More than 112,000 pounds of dust were spewing from the comet's nucleus every minute.

ISON will not be a threat to Earth - getting no closer to Earth than about 40 million miles, but a new model of the debris flowing from Comet ISON suggests that the sungrazer could dust the Earth with meteoroids in early 2014.

It turns out, some of that dust might end up on Earth!

Experts discuss the possibilities in a video from ScienceNASA.

Enormous natural hot water geyser arises spontaneously in Smolensk, Russia - April 2013

Right in the middle of the city Smolensk, a natural geyser arises spontaneously.

Last week, huge sinkholes started to appear all over the city of Samara, Russia, swallowing buses, cars, trucks.

Signs of the time?
