Construction Equipment - 1

Construction equipment is a series of blogs in which I would be sharing with you about the equipments which are used in civil engineering works. Most of us dont know about these machines and I hope you will find it interesting to know more about them :) Most of the equipment I'm going to share are the products of Caterpillar also known as CAT. This company is very famous worldwide for its high quality engineering products.

ARTICULATED TRUCKS
An articulated vehicle is a vehicle which has a permanent or semi-permanent pivoting joint in its construction, allowing the vehicle to turn more sharply. There are many kinds of articulated vehicles, from heavy equipment to buses, trams and trains. Steam locomotives were sometimes articulated in that the driving wheels could pivot around turns.
In a broader sense, any vehicle towing a trailer could be described as articulated (the word articulated comes from the Latin articulus : small joint). In the UK, the term "articulated lorry" refers to the combination of a tractor and a semi-trailer, abbreviated to "artic". In the U.S., this is called a semi-trailer truck, "tractor-trailer" or "semi-truck" and would not necessarily be called articulated

BACKHOE LOADER
A backhoe loader, also called a loader backhoe, digger, or colloquially shortened to backhoe, is a heavy equipment vehicle that consists of a tractor fitted with a shovel/bucket on the front and a small backhoe on the back. Due to its (relatively) small size and versatility, backhoe loaders are very common in urban engineering and small construction projects (such as building a small house, fixing urban roads, etc..).

COLD PLANER
A cold planer (also known as a pavement planer, pavement recycler, mill or asphalt milling machine or roto-mill) is a construction machine used to remove bituminous pavement or asphalt concrete from roadways, resulting in a somewhat rough, even surface that can be immediately opened to traffic. This is accomplished by bringing a rotating mandrel or "head" into contact with the pavement at an exact depth or slope. The mandrel has hundreds of hardened spikes on its surface, which bite and tear away at the roadway's surface. The surface material that is removed is normally fed by conveyor into a dump truck or semi trailer, but can be left in place or wind rowed to be removed at a later date or recycled. A water spray system provides cooling for the mandrel, as well as dust management.

COMPACT TRACK LOADER
A track loader is an engineering vehicle consisting of a tracked chassis with a loader for digging and loading material. The history of track loaders can be defined by three evolutions of their design. Each of these evolutions made the track loader a more viable and versatile tool in the excavation industry. These machines are capable in nearly every task, but master of none. A dozer, excavator, or wheel loader will out perform a track loader under a set of conditions, but the ability of a track loader perform almost every task on a job site is why it remains a part of many companies' fleets.

CAT 299 C

COMPACTOR
A compactor is a machine or mechanism used to reduce the size of waste material or soil through compaction. A trash compactor is often used by homes and businesses to reduce the volume of trash.
Normally powered by hydraulics, compactors take many shapes and sizes. In landfill sites for example, a large bulldozer with spiked wheels called a landfill compactor is used to drive over waste deposited by waste collection vehicles (WCVs).

Hope you liked the first set of Construction Equipment, I will soon be adding the construction equipment 2 watch out for more...
