10 Weirdest Theme Parks Around the World
Children love theme parks. The excitement generated by a young one upon realising that they will be going to a theme park for the day is right up there with waking up on a Christmas morning and knowing they are allowed to finally open their presents. For adults, queuing up for hours in the on/off rain for a two-minute ride on a rollercoaster hardly seems exciting. Which is perhaps why some of these weird theme parks seem to be aimed at adults. We’ll let you decide for yourselves if any of these excite you or not but here is a list of 10 of the weirdest theme parks around the globe.
1. Love Land in South Korea

A theme park where the theme is sex…obviously. It’s located on the Cheju Island, which locals refer to as “Honeymoon Island”. The whole park is filled with sexually explicit statues and naughty artwork. Even the benches are suggestive in their phallic shapes! The park was originally created as an exhibit for art students at Seoul’s Hongik University but is now open for everyone to enjoy.
2. BonBon Land in Denmark

This bizarre theme is Denmark’s fourth largest. It’s based on a popular Danish confectionary that make candy featuring unusual objects and animals. As well as vomiting rodents visitors can also enjoy rides with names such as The Horse Dropping, The Crazy Turtle (who also looks like he’s about to puke), and my favourite – Hundeprutterutchebane, which is supposed to translate to Dog Fart Rollercoaster. Riders of the rollercoaster are taken on a magical journey around giant fake dog turds while speakers blurt out farting noises! Sounds like an entertaining family day out!
3. Diggerland in England

Yep, you guessed it – a theme park devoted to the wonderment of construction equipment. Ever since Bob the Builder came along British kids have gone crazy for construction and so there are four theme parks especially designed with this theme in mind! There are all sorts of rides to enjoy like the Spindizzy, a modified Tilt-a-Whirl in which guests sit in the bucket of a giant excavator. And who could forget the Dancing Diggers of course…
4. Išgyvenimo Drama in Lithuania

For just $220 you can experience what it was like in 1984 USSR. The name of the “theme park” translates to The Drama of Survival. With a name like that and judging from the fun picture it would seem like that $220 could be the best way to part with such an amount of money! As if you weren’t convinced enough all of the actors who will look after you for the two and a half hours were once part of the Soviet army or were official Communist interrogators.
5. Dickens World in England

Found in the Chatham Dockyard in Kent is Dickens World, a recreation of the era when one of England’s greatest ever novelists was alive. The tour will include meeting “Victorians” who will educate you on everything that went on in the Victorian period. Apparently there is even a log flume based on Great Expectations.
6. Suoi Tien Park in Vietnam

A Buddhist-themed amusement park in Vietnam that features a giant splash park and various thrill rides. Not weird enough? Well for those who manage to escape the torments of hell after years of gambling, adultery, and taking drugs they will be granted eternal life in Heaven Palace…
7. Harmonyland in Japan

If you can’t make out what Harmonyland is all about from the picture then I’ll fill you in. Harmonyland is a theme park entirely dedicated to Hello Kitty. The Japanese are so crazy about the little character that everything inside this theme park revolves around the magical feline. From Hello Kitty spinning teacups, to Hello Kitty Ferris wheel, via a Hello Kitty variant of “It’s a Small World.” But where Harmonyland really excels is in its parades and stage shows.
8. Grutas Park in Lithuania

I don’t think the Lithuanians have fully understood what is meant by “amusement” parks because here we have Grutas Park, which is devoted to Josef Stalin and life under his tyrannical reign. Based just a short drive away from the country’s capital the park features a zoo and a playground and a recreated gulag with guard towers and an electrified fence… Along a 1.2-mile path you’ll find 82 Communist-era sculptures that were dismantled following the restoration of Lithuanian independence.
9. Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi

The commercially crazy, oil-rich land of Abu Dhabi is home to Ferrari World. A high-tech theme park that includes simulator rides, roller coasters, an interactive museum and a theatre with an Italian-themed play and a race track. Ferrari World cost a measly$40 billion to build and stretches out over 4,200 acres. It’s located on Yas Island, 30 minutes from Abu Dhabi and 50 minutes from Dubai Marina.
10. The Nintendo Amusement Park in New York

An interactive live amusement park that allows visitors to dress up as their favourite Nintendo characters (options being Mario or Luigi from all the images I have seen) and take part in an obstacle course whilst suspended from a harness. The official website
describes it as “physically augmented reality” on account of there not being anything digital, projected or virtual giving the person the feeling that they are inside a real-life video game.
