Several of the wineries in the Temecula Valley have restaurants. We opted for the Cafe Champagne at Thornton, primarily to sample one of their chocolate wines, which had captured our imagination. Red wine with a hint of chocolate? Sounded wonderful and yet . . .we just weren't sure.
I had a simple, delicious salad of mixed greens, pecans and Gorgonzola. My travel buddy chose the Chicken Caesar. Although many of our fellow diners were sampling wines with their lunch, I ordered a single glass of the Thornton 2011 Chardonnay. And for dessert? A Kiss of Chocolate. A rich velvety blend of red wine and chocolate. Yum. My curiosity satisfied.
