Teotihuacan - An Enormous Archeological Site in Mexico

Teotihuacan is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico. It is characterized by the vast size of its monuments. It contains some of the largest Mesoamerican pyramids. The city of Teotihuacan is located abut 50 kilometers northeast of Mexico City.

Teotihuacan was built between the 1st ad 7th centuries and was regarded as a holy city. There are so many monuments of huge size. Some of the most important monuments include - the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. These monuments are laid out on geometric and symbolic principles.

Teotihuacan is said to have been a prominent area of the world throughout several centuries. It was one of the ancient world's largest cities with an urban core covering some twenty square kilometers. At its peak around 600 AD, more than 100,000 people lived there.

Teotihuacan was one of the most powerful cultural centers in Mesoamerica. It extended its cultural and artistic influence throughout the region, and even beyond. Its influence was felt throughout central Mexico and as far south as Guatemala.

Teotihuacan today remains as one of the largest archaeological sites in the word and is regularly seen as a great contender to replace – or join – any of the Seven Wonders Of The World.
