Mimi hates it when I wear cheap jewelry, but I'm trying to convince her I don't do cheap. I do kitsch. Kitsch is cool. Kitsch is iconic, an Olympic-sized reflection of pop culture that Everyman sees, tastes and hears on a daily basis. When kitsch jewelry is done sparingly, it is not tacky.
Au contraire, it causes a double-take.
Whenever I wear this bracelet, usually with a kazillion silver bangles, I get squinty eyes trying to figure out what the pictures are. "It's Mary and the Saints. I got it at the Santa Barbara Mission."
