Kampa Island

This little island in Prague is located down the stairs at the castle end of Charles Bridge, and it is a haven of peace and quiet.  Our hotel, Kampa Gardens, was so quiet, in fact, we forgot we were in a city of one million people.  We had a bucolic view of the canal and park, our room was spacious and clean and the breakfast buffet was excellent.  We lingered here a little too long every morning.  But then we could walk everywhere from here, so what was the big rush anyway?
In my guidebook I would list David Cerny's huge bronze babies as a reason to come to Prague!  Located on the grounds of  the contemporary art museum on the island, they took us by total surprise.  It took us awhile to get pictures of these amazing sculptures without people climbing all over them.  The island is full of wonderful art, making it a great place to stroll.

On two of the bridges to the Little Quarter, there were padlocks attached to the railings.  Lovers from all over world have declared their undying love to each other.  To me it symbolized the romance of Kampa Island.  I hinted to my traveling buddy that I wouldn't mind locking up our love here, but he found the above padlock with our names and said, "I already have."   (Good answer!)
