Eastern Province Ruins

I love messing about in ruins almost as much as messing about in boats.  In the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia there were many great places to do exactly what I love best.  Tarut is a small island in the Arabian Gulf, just off the coastal town of Qatif.  It is accessible by a natural land bridge and full of ruins. Tarut was a trading port for more than 7000 years.  Now that is history!   One of the only remaining Portugeuse forts can be found here.  It was built in the 16th century.

Dhows at Tarut
Al-Uqair is another large archaeological site located 55 miles south of Damman.  There are many old government buildings as well as the ruins of a mosque built during the early days of King Abdulaziz.
