A Walkabout

Mimi contemplates the vast wilderness of Los Padres National Forest.  She is urging me forward, to walk deeper and deeper into this unexplored land.

"You know you want to," she says.

But can I?  How long could I survive?  My traveling companion often jokes that roughing it to me is a hotel without a formal dining room.  But Mimi is right.  It is something I want to do.  Not the full-blown six-month test of manhood, which Aboriginal adolescents undertake, but a week long trek with a backpack is a very strong possibility.  Sure, why not, mate!
